CarbonMag is a disruptive new RNA purification technology which uses carbon surfaces, rather than silica surfaces, to isolate RNA from a mixture. Carbon has been used for years in medical implants because it binds neither nucleic acids nor proteins, which reduces bio-fouling. We have engineered a carbon surface which binds only single-stranded nucleic acids under specific conditions. The result is an easy-to-perform magnetic bead-based purification method that isolates RNA without DNA contamination.
