Life Magnetics Team
Kevin Hagedorn, Ph.D.
President, Manufacturing Specialist
Kevin graduated from the University of Michigan where he received a Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Chemistry with a focus on Semiconductor Surface Chemistry. At the University of Michigan, he developed physics simulations to predict how the surface chemistry of semiconductors would affect their performance in optoelectronic devices such as solar cells and microprocessors.
Prior to starting Life Magnetics, Inc., he spent five years in the laser industry. He was a member of the new technology commercialization team at IMRA America, the world leader in femtosecond fiber lasers, where he developed systems for scribing solar cell interconnects and developed manufacturing methods for producing nanoparticles by pulsed laser ablation. He was also a staff scientist at SurClean, Inc., a start-up developing robotic laser-based surface coating removal systems, his laser-based coating removals systems could selectively remove individual paint layers.
In 2015, Kevin started Life Magnetics, Inc. with Saravana Murthy. Kevin developed the manufacturing method used to create the products and currently oversees manufacturing and business development.
Kevin has won two Small Business Innovation and Research awards from the National Science Foundation, has five peer-reviewed publications, and seven issued patents.
Kayla Wells
Research Scientist
Kayla graduated from Kettering University with a Bachelors of Science in Applied Biology. She is currently finishing up her Masters at Davenport University in Data Analytics.
Prior to working at Life Magnetics, Kayla had worked at Paragon Laboratories during her Undergraduate studies as a Co-Op, testing wastewater and drinking water for contaminates. After graduating, she worked for the startup, Functional Fluidics, providing tests for Sickle Cell Anemia patients. With her Undergraduate Co-Op and her work with Functional Fluidics, she has over 8 years of wet laboratory experience.
At Life Magnetics, Inc., Kayla serves as the Research Scientist and the Automation Specialist for the Opentrons Liquid Handler. Kayla joined the team in 2021 and through the guidance of Rishabh Kala and Kevin Hagedorn, she has been optimizing the graphene nanoparticles in diagnostics development in dairy milk and wastewater.
